Context

"Mr. Mather had been a member of a mining concern, Pickands, Mather & Co., Cleveland, and was a director of several companies.
In 1936 he retired from business to work as a volunteer in health and welfare. He became a board of the American Social Health (then Hygiene) Association in 1940, president in 1948 and chair man in 1959.
The association, which has its headquarters in New York, carries on campaigns to fight veneral disease and drug abuse."

"Philip Richard Mather était membre d'une société minière, Pickands, Mather & Co. à Cleveland, Ohio, États-Unis, et était directeur de plusieurs entreprises. Il prend sa retraite en 1936 pour travailler en tant que bénévole dans les domaines de la santé et de l'aide sociale. Il rejoint l'American Social Health Association en tant que membre du Conseil d'Administration en 1940, il en devient le directeur en 1948 et le président en 1959. L'association dont le siège est basé à New-York, mène des campagnes pour lutter contre les maladies vénériennes et l'abus de drogues."

His dad : Samuel Livingston, Philip, Constance, Amasa Stone. In 1882 he was involved in the formation of Pickands, Mather & Co. He was instrumental in aligning the company with the steel industry, and in the merger with U.S.Steel in 1902.

His mother : Married Samuel Mather in 1881. Mother of Samuel Livingston, Amasa Stone, Philip Richard and Constance (Bishop). Founded Goodrich House 1n 1896 and supporting outgrowth activities the Legal Aid Society and The Consumers League of Ohio. Her will provided funds to 30 religious, educational, and charitable institutions, including funds for Amasa Stone Chapel on the CWRU campus.
