Depuis des siècles, les populations des régions chaudes sont frappées par le paludisme. Cette maladie infectieuse qui se propage dans le sang est portée par les moustiques qui se développent dans les eaux calmes et stagnantes. Les protections à leur rencontre sont de plusieurs ordres : moustiquaires, assèchement des marais, épandage de colorant, prise de médicaments. Ainsi la maladie peut-elle être combattue et progressivement éradiquée.
