''Medical Movies on the Web'' est un portail qui propose une sélection de titres issus de la collection d'images animées de la ''National Library of Medicine''. Cette collection de renommée mondiale comprend près de 8 000 films et vidéos datant de l'époque du cinéma muet jusqu'à nos jours. Elle couvre un large éventail de sujets, de la santé publique et des maladies contagieuses à la chirurgie, en passant par les soins infirmiers, le cancer, la tuberculose, la santé mentale, le développement de l'enfant, l'hygiène dentaire, etc. Nombre de ces titres sont rares et dans certains cas, c’est la NLM qui en possède la dernière copie. Chaque titre présenté est accompagné du commentaire d'un ou plusieurs experts qui resitue le film dans son contexte historique et propose une bibliographie et souvent une sélection de documents connexes. L'accès aux films se fait également par l’intermédiaire des collections numériques de la NLM et de sa chaîne ''YouTube'' où l'on peut trouver d'autres titres. Il se peut que le contenu de certains films soit jugé difficile, dérangeant ou offensant par les spectateurs. Il est rappelé que ces films s’adressent à un public averti.
